Dear member of this site,
On this page I will try to introduce you shortly to this Wiki and to your part of it.

First of all: What is a Wiki?

According to Wikipedia, the world largest wiki site:
A Wiki ([ˈwiː.kiː] <wee-kee> or [ˈwɪ.kiː] <wick-ey>) is a type of website that allows users to add, remove, or otherwise edit and change most content very quickly and easily.
As a part of Wikidot.com network this Site is a customizable piece of the Internet where Users (in this case YOU) can edit content, upload files, communicate and collaborate.

What is your part of this Wiki?

The aim of this page is to gather information about Struve Geodetic Arc from the participating countries.
Every nation has its place on this page to include their information, share it to the other countries and the world, and communicate easily about used technics in their investigation process. In the Countries-section, you will find a link to your country. The titles are already set and in the brackets you can find some keywords about the paragraph; it is now your part to include your information.

How do I learn how to edit my page?

First of all, you need to be a member of this site to edit it. Here you can apply to become one.
At the bottom of every page you see a button called "edit". Clicking it will open an editor, where you can paste your information. The editor does not use wysiwyg, to format your text you can either use the Wiki-Syntax or use the buttons above the editor. If you are interested about the source code of any page, you can use the button "+ options" / "view source" to compare the syntax and the resulted look of the page.
I have created a Playground where you can try different formating and whatever you whant. I have also set up some examples for common syntax.
Wikidot has several places to find help for nearly everything. Try Wiki-Syntax, the Community Forum or the Code Snippets Site. Or write the question into the Forum that will soon be included.
When editing something, you will find a box called Short description of changes. Please always insert a little test there (a few words are enough) that describes what you have done. This provides a better overview of the page changes, which you can see in the history.

Just one page?

If you have plenty of information, you can create its own page for every paragraph. On the left panel, you find a button called new page. Don't forget to place a link on your parental country site on the new page, else nobody will find your page. You can also include the link on the side panel. To create a foldable list for your country, please look at the examples.

How many files/photos may I include?

The number of files are not limited, but the storage quota. At the moment, we have 300 MB available that means your uploaded files should together be no larger than 25 MB! To prevent the storage from overrunning, please shrink your photos in advance of uploading to sizes less than 300 KB. Do not upload Word-Documents, if you convert them to PDF-Files they are smaller. If documents include photos, shrink them before pasting them into the document. Wikidot plans to enlarge the available space of every Wiki, as soon as this happens all images can also be uploaded in large sizes.
